Troop #12589 consists of 11 1st graders from several schools in Hillsboro. We decided to dedicate 1/3 of our Girl Scout Cookie earnings to our service project which is teaching kids how to plant and grow their own fresh vegetables. An overwhelming majority of the girls chose food insecurity as the cause we wanted to put our effort and energy into. Along with this project we will also be volunteering and donating to the local food bank. We will be attending the farmers market and helping kids plant bush beans in a bucket they can take home along with a flier to help them grow, harvest, clean and eat the beans. The small buckets will make kids in any living situation able to grow their own beans as long as they have outdoor space, so it will work in an apartment as well as a big garden space.
