Anniversary Story - 1969 Chevrolet C-20 Pickup Truck

Early 1970's:

Truck purchased in “used” condition by Arden Sheets. Upgrades soon included, camper tye-downs, camper intercom system, front mount spare tire, and saddle auxiliary gas tanks. (Look in rear wheel wells.) A camper was also purchased.

Used mostly local, one memorable family vacation, we drove to the Grand Canyon and back. Biggest memory: it snowed at the Grand Canyon. Also “stock rack” built as father-son project as we raised pigs to eat.

1976:

Moved to the Hillsboro area

1977- 1980:

Used by Robert “Rusty” Sheets as transportation while attending Hillsboro High School. This is when the Gold Shag rug was added. In addition serving as Ardens Gardens farm truck. Hauling sheep and pigs along with produce from the garden.

1982:

Used to sell at opening Hillsboro Farmers Market. As a member of Tualatin Valley Garden Club, Arden Sheets helped spur the development of the Market and was a vendor at the first Hillsboro Farmers’ Markets.

1982- 1995:

First years of the Market, vendors sold out of rear of trucks, so truck came to sell plants and produce from Ardens Gardens.

1995 – 2002:

TVGC purchased their first tent and tables in 1995, the truck served as hauler of club “setup” to the Market from then until club bought trailer in 2001. Pulling the trailer to the market for several more years before getting relieved of club responsibilities.

2002 – current:

Truck has been used on an as needed basis to haul plants and large loads of produce from Ardens Gardens to the Market. Along with other misc garden hauling needs.

Recent repairs include seat recovered, a new radiator, and new muffler and tail pipe.
