What is your favorite memory of Hillsboro Farmers' Markets?
I don’t have one specific favorite memory, it is more of a feeling & experience that always brings a smile to my face when I think of Hillsboro Farmers Market. If I could pin point one memory that stands out it would be last year’s Saturday Market where they were having youth led live music @ civic center. I just thought it was SO COOL to highlight kids & their love for music and they arts.
What were the markets like when you started shopping with us?
When we first moved here & started attending markets, I primarily focused on going to the farmers fruit & veggie stands. There were a lot of floral, plant, nursery vendors as well. These are always a plus!
What drew you to the markets?
I unexpectedly moved to Hillsboro 22 years ago as a single mother of an almost one year old & I was pregnant with my second child. My family in Oregon took us in & this moved changes our lives! They introduced us to downtown hillsboro & Tuesday and Saturday markets. I just remember a feeling of happiness, positivity for mine & my sons’ futures, & a wonderful feeling of community. We felt safe and at home, like this is the place we were meant to be. We have been patrons ever since. When I started my bakery last year, it was my goal to be a Saturday Market vendor & just this past Saturday was my first day as a Hillsboro Saturday Market Vendor!
How has the market changed since your first visit?
I notice that now there are a lot more other vendors offering a variety of different goods that I did not remember seeing 20 years ago (i.e. music lessons, childrens books…etc.)
