Anniversary Story - Gayle
I would say that my favorite memory, at least as a volunteer, is Liz & Amy looking so happy to see me when I show up for my shift! I started volunteering in 2020 when Covid reared its ugly head & since all my other usual volunteer opportunities were falling away, this seemed like a good way to help, plus learn the behind-the-scenes stuff of how a market is run. I've had a chance to establish a rapport with vendors & staff that I might not have been able to do as just a customer.
I started coming to HFM probably 25 years ago when I moved onto the west side from Troutdale. I have always enjoyed farmer's markets because I like to get to know the people I'm getting my food from. It's important to support them.
As a customer, I have noticed the ebb & flow of vendors. Vendors whose products I used to buy are no longer here, and there are others replacing them whose products I may not be interested in. It seems like there are more alcoholic choices now, which certainly weren't available as much in years past.
I know that the market has to roll with the times, for better or worse, & they're doing the best they can under the circumstances. Liz has really had her hands full the last couple of years.
